I think it was always brilliant but the earlier strips are definitely my favorites. Times change but comic strips usually do not. Peanuts was once extremely hip and timely. I see what I was missing but it can't compete with some of the newer, hipper strips. And you're right about it taking up space for new blood (or ink).
