What? Andy Capp is sexist? No?!

Yo. Andy Capp is still running after all these years. Started in 1957 by British cartoonist Reg Smythe who died in 1998, the comic strip is now created by Rogers Mahoney and Kettle. This is one of those unfortunate instances where comics are kept going for too long.

Aren’t we past the time where sexism equals humor? Is this funny? I’m a guy and I’m offended. Hey I’m not sayin’ these aren’t issues that comic strips shouldn’t tackle. But that’s not what Andy is about. He is known for his hostile, cutting remarks toward his wife. But it’s the 21st century now, people. It’s not cool to call your wife “pet” while demanding dinner.

Are you offended by such a strip or do you shrug off the crazy ol’ outdated Andy? Leave a comment.

I shrug off the old bugger. Andy Capp is of no use to me whatsoever except as a vehicle to teach me working class English slang, which came in handy when I met my working class English husband. Other than that, it’s been cringeworthy all these years and I don’t expect it to change.

Andy Capp sure isn’t getting a good reputation around here. Yeah he is supposed to be sexist, it’s part of the character. My point is that this isn’t the 1950s anymore and Andy hasn’t changed. But maybe his wife Flo has something to say about it.

Oh come on, leave the politics out of this!!
Andy Capp is a legend! The jokes are clever and very funny (not so much any more since the original artist/writer died) and if you look closely, you’l notice that both genders are equally teased.
    I love Andy Capp!!
