If you’ve ever submitted a comic strip to the newspaper syndicates, you know it can be a process of both exciting growth and emotional strain.  It’s a fact that the rejection letters do come.  And sometimes it feels like this:

Get up, dust yourself off and keep going!  Keep drawing.  Keep improving.  Keep trying.  It doesn’t always have to be this way.

Sometimes the syndicate rejections are just so impersonal.

I always wished they would give a little more feedback when I was submitting comic strips.  I know it’s not easy for them when they have hundreds of rejection letters to send out at any moment.  Still, a photocopied letter isn’t a welcome answer to the serious cartoonist.

We love comic strips so much here at Zingerding that we’re publishing our own. Zingerding Ink is a comic strip about comic strips starring Marilla P. Alligator and Hank DeBird, two professional cartoon characters looking to get their strip established in the world. It takes place in a self-aware environment, meaning the characters know they are in a comic strip.

The strip is a collaboration of Zingerding’s three founders and is drawn by one of them, Steve Lowtwait, a former Nickelodeon cartoonist. Created specifically for the web, Zingerding Ink is 100% digitally drawn which allows for techniques not capable in newspapers.

Follow Marilla and Hank as they pitch themselves to the newspaper syndicates, taking a path familiar to many cartoonists. This is only the beginning so check back for what happens next week.

Enjoy!
